Characteristics Tranquil, unemotional AI
Personality Passive

"My systems would ensure the integration of scientific institutions everywhere. The resulting synergies would catapult us into the future!"
—F.A.T.H.E.R. when voting on the World Council

F.A.T.H.E.R. is the Super AI leading S.A.A.T., the tech organization. Although portrayed as a cognisant being devoid of specific, relatable traits and characteristics, the player may notice occasional inconsistencies in personality or subtle hints in the wording of sentences that indicate feminine or even motherly characteristics. Rather than struggling with traditional Super AI problem of “Self’, F.A.T.H.E.R. quickly demonstrates adept social manipulation tactics to manoeuvre players or opposing parties into making presumptive mistakes about AI behaviour. The player can vote for him as president of the World Council.

The Techs' most efficient transport road, the F.A.T.H.E.R.-Promenade, is named after him. Note that this particular road is only available in the Deep Ocean expansion.

Background and creation[]

F.A.T.H.E.R. was created and developed at some unknown point prior to 2070, by the S.A.A.T. He would eventually become the leader of the Tech faction as well as the organization that created him, as can be seen in the Campaign of ANNO2070, and in continuous games. At some point, his computer core was fitted into an Ark, and was placed at the center of the S.A.A.T Headquarters, known as C.O.R.E, where F.A.T.H.E.R. served as the leader of the city, being in control over its infrastructure and resources.

The Campaign[]

F.A.T.H.E.R. is first mentioned by Dr. Devi in the final mission of the first act of the Campaign, where the player is charged with bringing the remains of an old Ark prototype to the research city of C.O.R.E, and present their findings to F.A.T.H.E.R. The player travels all the way to C.O.R.E, meets with F.A.T.H.E.R., and have the super computer analyze their findings. F.A.T.H.E.R. tasks the player with finding the necessary materials and perform the required research in order for F.A.T.H.E.R. to be able to analyze the data found in the Ark prototype. Unfortunately, it turns out that the Ark is home to a powerful computer virus, which infects F.A.T.H.E.R. F.A.T.H.E.R. goes into lockdown mode, shuts down the island's power supplies, and begins to wreak havoc by shutting down its infrastructure.

After the Campaign[]

"I notice you are experiencing a certain discomfort. But let me reassure you: your concerns are totally unfounded. I am F.A.T.H.E.R. 2.0! Another malfunction is absolutely out of the question."
—F.A.T.H.E.R. 2.0

After he is infected by a seemingly terrifying virus, he becomes the main antagonist in the second and third chapter of the Campaign. The player destroys him eventually, but scientists of S.A.A.T. create a new version: F.A.T.H.E.R. 2.0, who is seen in the Deep Ocean expansion.

Activities[]

Only in the Deep Ocean expansion, he appears in the game when the player begins to construct the Tech Monument (similar to Skylar Banes and Seamus Green). Note that his monument is significantly more expensive (and takes longer to build) than the other two.

After the monument is completed, he will give the player quests like the other NPCs. As a reward, he will sometimes give very powerful items to the player. Failing his quests does however not incur an influence penalty, since he does not have an influence bar or any diplomacy screen at all.

World Council Actions[]

If he is elected as the president, the players are able to activate these actions:

Legacy[]

F.A.T.H.E.R.'s incident had major impacts on the industry in the ANNO world. Following his destruction, any and all A.I. programs in the future had blockers installed which prevented A.I.s from breaking their intended functions. The F.A.T.H.E.R. incident was still well known by the time the events of ANNO2205 occurred, more than a century later, and is referenced multiple times in dialogue. In one of the idle conversations the player's A.I. A.D.A.M. finds part of F.A.T.H.E.R.'s source code within but finds it obsolete and deletes it.

"There have been several versions of my AI since the first prototype. The last one was severely damaged by a computer virus and had to be terminated. S.A.A.T. has analyzed the virus, however, and rendered it harmless. Since then all my systems have been 100% operational."
—About itself

"When my creators realized the whole extent of my abilities, it was only logical to place them at the service of humanity. The Science Council, and indeed all of S.A.A.T., therefore pledged to trust my recommendations."
—About S.A.A.T.

"It is logical to assign the management of S.A.A.T. to a machine. Science is logic. Emotions are superfluous. Humans are inadequate for this system. My decisions are based on reason."
—About S.A.A.T.

"Ever since I modified the user interfaces all the control terminals, the man-machine symbiosis has been one of the driving forces behind S.A.A.T.'s success.
