The intro to Domination mode

The Domination Mode is a special multiplayer game mode.

In this game mode, the red and blue teams compete in a series of missions. A maximum of 10 players can play within a session.

Naming convention[]

Naming can be confusing in this mode, here is a dictionary for the following content:

  • Session: the lobby room you join in the conflicts' list
  • Map: the combination of nodes and paths in a conflict. Not the same as mission map:
  • Mission Map: the in-game map every player plays on in the session.
  • Node: a node in the net of quests offered in the Session main overview; nodes contain the type of quest needed to control it.

Note that participants never meet human parties on the mission map: Domination Mode is technically a series of continous games with specific missions.

Creating a New Game[]

If you create a new session, you can configure the following settings:

  • The name of the session
  • The maximum number of players per team (1 - 5)
  • The duration of the game (2, 3, 5, 7 or 14 days)
  • The daytime limit (see note)
  • If the time can be accelerated during the missions (see tips)
  • If you want to allow open access
  • On which map you want to play

Note: the daytime limit sets a maximum daily limit for any individual player in the session.

Scoring & Control[]

The two teams gain points by completing the levels of each mission 'node' in succession; usually only one mission per node. Sometimes more missions are available on the same mission map, depending on the difficulty of the mission and the position of the node.

If a team reaches a new node, they gain control of that node and can play all missions adjacent to it.

DM-overview

A session after team Red's victory.

If a node is already controlled, the other team needs to obtain a higher level than what the controlling team has in order to control the node: i.e. if the blue team has completed level 3 of a mission node then the red team must complete level 4 in order to gain control.

Being in control of a node also gives the controlling team 5, 10 or sometimes even 15 bonus point, depending on the difficulty of the mission and it's location relative to the team's starting point.

Nodes[]

There are 13 types of nodes available in the Domination Mode.

Tips[]

  • This game mode is best suited for players who's strongsuit is expansion and economy.
  • If time acceleration is allowed, use it! For instance, on 'Produce Goods' missions, this can give you a significant advantage.
  • The first level of any node is relatively easy to accomplish, so thrive to take a strong lead if you've already made the effort!
  • Maps are not exactly symmetric, think through your node picks!
  • It's better to join a session with someone you know, so at least 1 other teammate will be active!

Trivia[]

  • The home base is 'impregnable', so the least territory a team can control is 1 node.
  • Arks' storage is off, no upgrades or goods can be transferred in or out of any nodes.
  • Every session has it's own map seed, to ensure that all players have the same setup.
  • This is probably the multiplayer mode Bethesda was advertising as 'massive', as it is an offline - online game.
